About Joining the Twin City Tuba Band
The Twin City Tuba Band is open to all musicians regardless of age, gender, race or religion. All participants volunteer their time and talents to the betterment of the instrument, the band, and the community. There are no auditions required. The only requirement is a desire to continuously develop your instrumental skill and musicianship. The band’s repertoire consists of varying styles, levels and forms of music. Classical and popular styles of music are explored through transcriptions from solo and orchestral works as well as original compositions for wind band instruments.
While we do welcome players of all ages and experience levels, the music we play is moderately difficult and can be challenging to inexperienced players. Members are expected to take their music home and practice. When the Twin City Tuba Band rehearses, it is to work on the finer aspects of performance, not to learn parts. Anyone interested in joining the group should also keep the following band policies in mind.
1. Rehearsal attendance is vital. We understand our volunteer musicians may not be able to attend every rehearsal, but we simply ask that you attend as many rehearsals as possible.
2. Since most of us are amateur musicians playing in other ensembles, we understand the hierarchy of loyalty to other performing groups in which our members play. We try very diligently not to overrun the schedules of these groups and our yearly rehearsal schedule is set accordingly.
3. There are at least 1 - 2 concerts each summer. In addition, we perform 1-2 Christmas concerts. You should be able to play the majority of these. The enjoyment of performing concerts is where the hard work of rehearsals pays its dividends.
4. The Twin City Tuba Band has no band dues or fees. The band has bright red shirts silk-screened with the TCTB logo, which we wear for concerts. Each member will need to purchase his or her shirt. Should this be a problem for any reason, please let the director know and this will be confidentially resolved for you.
5. Please keep the Director or a board member advised of any address, phone, or e-mail changes.
